Assata Shakur was born in Queens, New York City where she where she lived for three years with her parents and grandparents, Lula and Frank Hill. After her parents were divorce, she spent most of her childhood in Wilmington, North Carolina with her grandmother until her family relocated in the Queens. One time she ran away from home and lived with strangers until she was taken in by her aunt, Evelyn Williams but later on was taken by her lawyer. She dropped out of high school, but later on she earned a GED. She attended Borough of Manhattan Community College and then the City College of New York in the mid-60's where she was involved with Political Activities.
