After graduation from City College of New York at the age of 23, Shakur became involved with the Black Panther Party. Eventually becoming a leading member of the Harlem branch. Shakur had met several of its members on a 1970 trip to Oakland, California. One of Shakur's main activities with the Panthers was coordinating a school breakfast program. Soon she left the party because of the macho behavior of the males in the organization.
But this did not go as far as other female Black Panther Regina Jennings who left because there was sexual harrasement. Shakur's main criticism was the Black Panther's lack of Black History. So I see that Assata Shakur sticks up for what you believe.
